THE PROJECT

few years ago, I had the honor of working as a team with Rubentopia and Merijn van Kruijsbergen on this unique maze under the direction of Alan Boom, Joep van Gorp, and Matthijs Verhagen. Two years later, I had the opportunity to design the two hospitality venues within Doloris Utrecht.

The waiting room is a place where guests can experience a transition period between the outside world and the maze. Here, you gradually lose track of time because you have to hand in your phone. This ensures that people truly interact with each other while enjoying a drink in an atmospheric setting.

After the maze, guests emerge into the lounge - a retro-futuristic speakeasy bar accessible only to those who have experienced the maze. Here, guests can talk about their adventure and further enjoy themselves with a nice drink. Unique lamps were designed for the Lounge, and even the restrooms are styled in the same manner.

My thanks go to Joep van Gorp, Matthijs Verhagen, and Alan Boom, who gave me the space to grow during the process. I was given autonomy in my design and in making important decisions. I also ensured that everything fell within the conceived style, a task I had never executed on this scale before. Besides the hospitality spaces, I was also allowed to design the restrooms and entrance area. From the color on the walls to the upholstery of the chairs and stools, I had the chance to think along and make choices in everything. It was very nice to brainstorm with everyone involved and make decisions together. I want to thank the gentlemen immensely for the opportunity and trust.

Thanks also to Kloosterboer Decor, who took on the execution of the hospitality venues. It was a pleasant collaboration where we could switch quickly. They further "colored in" the design during the execution, adding a true Kloosterboer touch that greatly enhanced the design!

I am grateful for the chance to work on this special project and look forward to the visitors' reactions. Come experience it for yourself!

For the design, I made both the drawings and the 3D visualizations.
